Description
These cracked sugar cookies are everything a cookie should be — soft, chewy, and full of buttery sweetness with a perfectly crackled top
Ingredients
-
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
-
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar (plus extra for rolling)
-
1 large egg
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
-
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
-
Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar.
-
Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
-
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just golden and the tops are crackly.
-
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
-
For extra crackle, chill dough for 20 minutes before baking.
